RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Reporting to the Vice President of Actuarial Services, the Senior Actuarial Analyst will be responsible for the acquisition, analysis, and evaluation of company and industry data to determine rate/reserve adequacy, and oversees the development of rate proposals and filings/reserve reviews.
- You will also have the opportunity to direct system rate changes and rate page production, conducts ad hoc analysis with minimal supervision.
- Lastly, there will be the opportunity to compile and analyze company data for analysis of loss reserves, loss adjustment expense reserve adequacy and work independently on ad hoc projects.
- Initiate research projects.
- Direct the analysis of premium and loss data to determine rate/reserve adequacy.
- Direct the development and verification of sources of data for analysis to ensure that data used is current, accurate, and sufficient and appropriately documented.
- Develop and implement mathematical models to analyze corporate loss reserves.
- Analyze company data for rate/reserve adequacy.
- Investigate anomalies in data in order to ensure the development of the most accurate and practical proposals.
- Research applicable statutes and precedents in order to prepare supporting materials for rate and rule recommendations and filings for submission to regulatory authorities.
- Develop and enhance the pricing/competitive analysis/reserve review processes.
- Develop and present rate/reserve proposals that are in line with business/strategic directions set by senior management.
- Supervise systems rate files changes and produce rate pages.
- Communicate with regulatory authorities with respect to filings and rate examinations (i.e. through verbal and written reports).
- Communicate results of various analyses to the Vice President Actuarial Services (i.e. through written reports).
- Develop pricing/reserve recommendations.
- Develop work process in order to ensure that departmental objectives and ad hoc projects are met.
- Maintains contact with Underwriting and other departments to collect information for rate analysis and rate proposals; VP Actuarial Services to present rate/reserve proposals;
- Accounting to provide information regarding the adequacy of loss reserves and loss adjustment expense reserves;
- Systems to maintain rating engines and suggest and implement systems improvements; Planning on IBNR issues.
- Maintains contact with Provincial Regulators to file rates and rate revisions, and to respond to provincial regulatory authorities’ queries on filings; IBC/GAA as required;


QUALIFICATIONS:

- B.Sc. in Actuarial Sciences, or Bachelor or Masters Degree in Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline preferred.
- Successfully passing 6 or more Casualty Actuarial Society exams (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years experience in the property and casualty insurance field (experience in Commercial Lines an asset).
- Excellent relationship building/management skills.
- Supervision experience an asset.
- Advanced computer skills (PC and Mainframe; Business Object, Word, Excel, VBA an asset).
- Knowledge of data processing systems and programming (more of a conceptual rather than technical emphasis).
- Working knowledge of advanced mathematical theory and mathematical programming languages.
- Solid working knowledge of rate-making and/or reserving policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of insurance products and the insurance distribution process.
- Solid working knowledge of legal statutes regulating the insurance industry.
- Good analytical skills.
- Ability to mentor staff and work, such that all contribute to business unit and company goals.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deliver results.
- Good communication skills (both oral and written).
- Ability to explain complex terms / processes in simple language.
